At least 137 Palestinians, including 36 children have been killed and 920 have been wounded since hostilities flared up on Monday.
Thousands of Palestinian families have taken shelter in United Nations-run schools in northern Gaza to escape Israeli artillery fire. The UN has said it estimates approximately 10,000 Palestinians have left their homes in Gaza amid the Israeli offensive. Major casualties are seen in Palestine with massive destruction and around 10,000 Palestinians are forced to leave Gaza Strip. The conflict started on May 6 when Palestinians began protesting in Jerusalem over a forthcoming decision of the Israeli Supreme Court regarding the eviction of four Palestinian families from Sheikh Jarrah, a neighbourhood of East Jerusalem. The same day, Israeli police stormed the compound of the al-Aqsa Mosque.
History of Constant Conflicts
The area was under British Control till 1948, it had an Arab majority and a Jewish Minority, tensions grew when Britain got the task to set up a ”national home” in Palestine for the Jews. Between the 1920s and 40s, the number of Jews arriving there grew, with many fleeing from persecution in Europe and seeking a homeland after the Holocaust of WWII. Tension grew between both the communities. In 1948, after the end of WWII Britain left the place and Jews declared the formation of the state of Israel. Palestinians objectified and were followed by war, other Arab countries started their involvement as well.
Today, Gaza is ruled by a Palestinian militant group knows as “Hamas” and the boundaries of Gaza are strictly controlled by Israel and Egypt to stop weapons from getting to Hamas. The conflict has been constant between both the communities, almost 84,174 casualties have been recorded till now, some serious settlements should take place between both the communities to stop the ongoing conflicts.
In the end, in spite of all the peace talks and peace treaties and accords signed between both the nations the conflict keeps going on and it is all people’s loss in this, hundreds and thousands of lives have been destroyed till now and we all need to stand together to end this disaster going in the Middle East.
